Make music in the Bahamas

An appreciation for good music is not the only thing that links Sly and Robbie, AC/DC and Lenny Kravitz. As well a penchant for making multi-million selling records, these behemoths of the music world share a unique passion; one that lends credence to their authenticity as artists: The Bahamas.

As all genuine creators know, the support of an inspirational environment to get lost in is crucial to the creative process. The appreciation artists have for the Bahamas as a source of creativity is reassuring. Isn’t it good for modern culture to know that our most successful artists hunger to embrace natural paradises; places where the rhythm of nature is still sought out?

It’s not widely known that much of the musical genius that beats through iPods across the planet has its genesis in The Bahamas. The Bahamas as a creator’s haven is sort of a secret; a whisper that makes its way through only the circles that have ears to hear it.

In their hey day, ABBA, that quaffed Swedish quartet famed for eccentric haircuts and jumpsuits, used the super-famous Compass Point Studios in Nassau to record some of their music. Bob Marley crooned out the lyrics that would inspire generations to come to believe in one love from there; Jay-Z collaborates to this day with artists from the idyllic setting of its glass-cased studios. With a stellar assortment of the world’s major music personalities behind it, it’s undeniable: the Bahamas is one of the best places in the world to inspire creativity.

Our luxury Bahamas property and Bahamas vacation rentals are perfect for all the creative artists out there looking for a release. Our team is on hand to take requests about our superior range of Bahamas property, as well as advice about the Island’s most secluded parts – the kind conducive to high creativity.

Freeport: a business owner’s haven, and not just for its good weather…

Ask any hard working professional what their biggest, most unlikely dream is and you will invariably get the following answer, delivered with eyes pointed to the ceiling: “To live in the Bahamas.” They will usually follow it with a long and breezy but-it-won’t-ever-happen sort of sigh. Why?

The Bahamas is known for escapism, unspoiled beauty – paradise, even.  There are few people who believe that they can live such a charmed existence and keep their ambition. The Bahamas can mean indulgent laziness, relaxation, meditative bliss. And, for some people, this is what their life/holiday in The Bahamas turns out to be.

But, here’s the flipside to that misleading cliché:  because people reduce renting or buying a Bahamas condo to mere fantasy, they miss out on clever business opportunities. After all, golden beaches and aquamarine water are the stuff of untamed dreams, and The Bahamas is made out of such stuff. But, can The Bahamas, however whimsical this suggestion sounds, offer an opportunity for business owners to increase profits?

Yes.

Freeport

Freeport, the second largest city in The Bahamas after the capital, Nassau, is an entrepreneur’s dream. Not because it is a cosmopolitan hub, or because it hugs the shores of an ocean that never drops below 72˚, but because it is tax free. Freeport, as the name suggests, is a port where trading is, well, free.  This growth-encouraging law is the single biggest reason why international businesses are now opting to use Freeport as a site, and in some cases base, for operations. Florida, just a short fight away, has a population of 36 million. Added to this, 300 million people live within a three hour flight of Freeport, attracting a regular influx of visitors.

Freeport’s tax free status has been in existence as long as the city itself and will remain light on levies until at least 2054. The Suffolk Court development is ideally located in the centre of this perfect blend of tranquil beauty and business opportunity. The Team at Suffolk Court are  happy to advise those interested in purchasing our Bahamas properties, as well as those interested in our Bahamas condo rentals.

Grand Bahama – Construction, Coins & Conch

We decided to get out of the office this Thursday past and hold our weekly meeting outdoors. As you can well imagine, outdoors on the beautiful island of Grand Bahama, Bahamas, is long stretches of sugar like sand, picture perfect like sky blue water, and the sweet sound of the ocean…THE BEACH.

While on the beach in walking distance from our office, we met up with a talkative and curious visitor from New York on the third day of his vacation. The New Yorker all but took over our meeting. The man could talk…asked loads of questions…and talked some more…and then some. Among the many things he picked our brains about were: Coins, Conch, and Construction. If you’re thinking about buying or renting a Bahama condo, we thought you may also share his curiosity so here’s our answer.

Coins – What’s the value of the U.S dollar compared to the Bahamian dollar?
Well as a matter of fact two of the heralded attractions to the Bahamas are the political stability of the Bahamian government and the absence of taxes. The country’s sound fiscal and economic policies have kept the Bahamian dollar ON PAR with the US dollar since 1966. The legal currency of The Bahamas is the Bahamian dollar, but the US dollar is accepted throughout the islands.

Conch – The New Yorker had heard about Conch but didn’t know what this is…
Conch is a Bahamian delicacy…gem of seafoods…uniquely native shell fish…cultural fixture…Conch is sold and eaten fresh at local fish markets or at street corner shacks/trucks…many locals and visitors enjoy it fried, cracked,…roasted….A trip to Grand Bahama, Bahamas, would be incomplete without the delicious conch dining experience….Word has it that the conch seasoning taste better if you take full advantage of the breath taking island views while chewing on CONCH.

CONSTRUCTION – Considering the fact that we pride ourselves as experts in the business of constructing and property sales in The Bahamas, we were very much at home with his question “How difficult would it be for my family to own a nice condo on Grand Bahama Island?”

It’s actually not difficult to buy a Bahamas property, but we find from experience that there are a few items you’ll need on your checklist when searching for a good quality condo or property:
- Does the property have waterfront access?
- Will you get unrestricted sea views?
These properties will attract a higher sale/re-sale price in the future, a strong consideration if you are buying a condo as an investment.
- Is central air conditioning available?
Average 75 degree weather year round and cool sea breezes sound great…but the weeks of nice 90 degrees could call for some A/C…
Better to have it and not need it…than to need it…and not have it.
- Is there an onsite management service?
This is always useful considering you would like to be pampered while staying at your condo or property…and have full attention paid to your investment while you’re away.

We are back in the board room now but thought we’d mention that our beautiful island and world class talents…are not limited to New Yorkers…Feel free to talk to us or ask a question anytime about living here…Coins, Conch, Construction…or whatever you’d like to know.
