Eating out on Grand Bahama

Dining out in Grand Bahama is a treat for food lovers, especially those of the seafood persuasion. Impressive varieties of the day’s fresh catch can be bought in dozens of restaurants around Lucaya Port and Freeport. Don’t forget to start your meal with a conch-salad appetiser – an Island favourite.  Poultry and pork are other typical dishes, and are mostly curried, steamed or fried and eaten with rice or salad. Spices abound, so beware if you don’t like it hot!

Restaurants on Grand Bahama Island are generally mid-range, with a sprinkling of high end eateries around Freeport and Lucaya. Luciano’s at Port Lucaya Marketplace and Marina is probably at the top end of the pile, and has been positively reviewed in a handful of reputed publications, among them the NY Times.

Restaurants vary in size and style, from charming bistros to loud and ambient Irish bars. Like most things, referrals are generally the best way to find the quality you’re looking for. Our staff at Suffolk Court are happy to point visitors to top eateries in the area.

Here is a link to the most reviewed restaurants in Grand Bahama, according to the world-famous Trip Advisor website:

Grand Bahama Junkaroo Festival

The Grand Bahama Junkaroo Summer Festival begins this July 7th and runs until July 28th. It’s a fantastic time for visitors wishing to experience the island’s culture to arrive. Over four weeks, a spectacle of multi-coloured parades, feel-good indigenous music and culture fill the streets. It’s an important time in the Bahamian calendar, when thousands of islanders dress up in specially made costumes and masks to celebrate the centuries-old festival.

Activities will centre on Taino Beach Park, a popular hub for the island festivals.

Junkaroo recognises the history of the slave trade in the Bahamas and is thought to have first began somewhere between the 16th and 17th centuries. It was around that time that slaves were granted 3 days off: December 25th and 26th, and January 1st. In a celebration of freedom from the shackles of hard labour, the island’s slaves poured onto the streets to blow off steam.

Rhythmic beats from goatskin drums fill the atmosphere in commemoration of the slaves who once stretched goatskin across specially crafted drums. Historically, the slaves made musical instruments like drums from cast-off items like food containers. Today’s musicians, in honour of their ancestors, use similar methods.

Due to popularity, the festival has since grown to include summer vacation months. During this time, hoards of celebrants take to the streets in wild oceans of colour that have been compared to Brazil’s Mardi Gras.

The event is Co-ordinated by the Ministry of Tourism and Aviation, and is widely attended by the local population and enthralled tourists.

Luxury is Grand Bahama

The ultimate of being successful is the luxury of giving yourself the time to do what you want to do – Leontyne Price

There are discerning people out there who already know what it took Mr Price years to learn. These are successful people who, through whatever medium or forte, have achieved enough wealth to enjoy financial freedom. The definition of wealth, some would say, is not just having enough money; it is also having enough time to enjoy it. Having wealth doesn’t automatically bestow this knowledge, though. It takes some people more than a while to understand that taking time to enjoy pleasure is as intrinsic to life as rain.

A healthy understanding about the positives of living life in the lap of the finest things on offer – true luxury – is quite scant. Let us tell you then that The Bahamas, home of Suffolk Court luxury Bahamas property, has a reputation for bringing people round to the idea of enjoying their wealth.

Private yacht hires, sunset cruises, cloistered beachfront pampering houses and cocktails on pearly-white sand are just a few of the things on offer on our turquoise shores. Strawberry and chocolate facials, rose-oil foot massages and deep neck rubs are a few more. If that doesn’t touch your pleasure nerve, how about a feast of delicious conch cuisine? Maybe a game of golf or two on paradise island? A bird’s eye view of our palm-fringed island from the lofty heights of a private jet?

Different parts of the world are known for different things. Sensory stimulation is to New York what romance is to Paris. But Luxury, the finest of all things in life, belongs to The Bahamas; not exclusively, but pretty close to it.

Please, feel free to browse through our range of Bahamas property, our Bahamas vacation rentals and our Bahamas condos to see what we mean.

Bahamas – The Fairytale Wedding Location

A dream wedding is made from a few special ingredients, chief of which is a couple’s compatibility. But after the essentials have been seen to, when the engagement ring has been offered on bended knee; the proclamations of undying love spoken aloud, there are other things to consider. The perfect venue for the most important exchange in a couple’s history is the key ingredient in ensuring the day is never forgotten. A fairytale is set against an idyllic backdrop for a good reason: romance thrives on it.

The Bahamas is beauty incarnate. It’s no coincidence that our national bird, the flamingo, is a symbol of beauty, balance and grace. The pink hues of our feathered wildlife have inspired many a writer to wax lyrical. The island’s aquamarine waters, in infinite shades of blue and green, moved celebrated Bahamian artist Amos Ferguson to capture them with a brush.

Orchids and Frangipanis bloom in the Bahamas in rainbow spectrums. The vanilla scent of the Night-Blooming Cereus has been known to, as Oscar Wilde wrote in praise of flowers, ‘cure a common man’s woe.’ The yellow bell-shaped petals of the yellow elder, the Island’s national flower, dot the Bahamas in a pigment bright enough to inspire poetry.

The Bahamas is unquestionably an ideal location for a perfect wedding ceremony, whether vows are exchanged on a beach at sunset or indoors on sacred grounds. Wedding planners here do a roaring trade in organising dream weddings for national and international clients for one obvious reason: it is one of the best destinations in the world for romance.

Our luxury Bahamas property is set in a beautiful location, close to Freeport airport. Our Bahamas vacation rentals are perfect for honeymooners and their wedding guests. Please make an enquiry about your wedding day. We’d be happy to help you make your special day perfect.
